How To: Organic Ponytail

I am a big fan of the organic bun (twisting your hair into a knot bun on the top of your head). So I was really happy to find another organic hairstyle -- meaning no clips, bands or products, just your hair and a few twists. Check it out.

Goat Cheese Quiche with Hash-brown Crust

Mmmm Martha you genius...

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened, plus more for pan
  • 1 package (1 pound) frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed
  • 12 large eggs
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups reduced-fat sour cream
  • 1 package (4 to 5 ounces) soft goat cheese, room temperature
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Brush a 9-by-2 1/2-inch springform pan with butter. Line the sides of the pan with strips of waxed paper (the same height as pan); brush paper with butter.
  2. Squeeze excess moisture from hash browns. Mix in a bowl with butter, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon coarse salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Pat into bottom and up sides of prepared pan, using a moistened dry measuring cup. Place on a rimmed baking sheet; bake until set, 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk sour cream, goat cheese, 1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper until well combined; whisk in 11 remaining eggs. Pour into crust, and sprinkle with scallions. Bake until set, 45 to 50 minutes. Unmold quiche, and peel off waxed paper before serving.

My Style: Comfy Day

This is basically my go-to outfit for a casual day. I have been wearing rainbow sandals for YEARS and leggings are my best friend. I even have a light sweater similar to this one, but mine was a tad cheaper, ok...way cheaper. Shhhhhh don't tell anyone.

A comfy outfit for those lazy days when you just don't feel like getting all glammed up.

Second Hand Shops and Thrift Stores

I have been scoring big-time lately at thrift stores, rummage sales and second hand shops.
Do you bargain shop? If so where?
Here is a list of a few places that I love to find goodies.

Good Will
Buffalo Exchange
Cross Roads
Salvation Army
eBay
Craigslist

Here are some of my recent finds!
A vintage Chanel purse! I found this at the St. Andrews rummage sale last week. I paid a whopping $15 for it. Is it real? I don't know. Does anyone know how you can tell? It seems to be made out of real leather, the stitching is straight and clean and the gold chain doesn't have any tarnish. It looks legit to me! How great would that be if this was real!? I am crossing my fingers...

I found this cute little leather clutch for $1 at the same rummage sale. I really like the rose brocade. I'm thinking of replacing the thread tie with a leather one...that will class it up a notch.

I found this anthropologie sweater at Salvation Army today for $12.99. It still had the tags on it! And guess how much it what going for at Anthropologie....$293! What? That's insane!

I found this beautiful vintage mirror at a parking lot garage sale at 1734 Orange Ave. Costa Mesa CA, 92627. They have a sale every first Saturday of the month.  I paid $10 for it and I found the exact frame going for $149 a week later on etsy. Yay!

DIY Puffy Paint Lanterns

Here is how I would make these beauties...

You will need:
-1 mason jar
-1 fine point marker
-puffy paint

Draw your design with a marker
trace with puffy paint
Simple!

For a candle lit lantern:
-2 bendable wires (around 3 feet each)
-tea light

Fashion a handle out of the wire making a loop at each end.
Feed a second strand of wire through each loop and fasten it around the threads of the jar; twisting tightly multiple times.

For an electrical lantern:

-mason jar lid
-electrical chord with light bulb attachment.

You'll need to poke a hole through the lid and cut your electrical chord near the light bulb attachment. Pull the chord through the hole in the lid and then reattach the wires and wrap the new connection with electrical tape.

Storage Ideas For Small Bathrooms

So Danny just moved into our first little house! Yaaaay! Big step! He's getting things ready so we'll have a comfy place to live when we get married in August. He moved in 2 weeks ago and I am so excited to show you some pictures after we fix up the place. It's a one bedroom granny unit with our own backyard and driveway -- just perfect for us (we plan on making this little cottage our home until we finish the house around the corner). Anyways the point of this post...we have a super small bathroom and I found some great ideas for storage. Here they are! P.S. I hope you are all having a wonderful day.
