Cute Jewelry For a Good Cause {Our Sisters Of Africa}

 

After a trip to Kenya and Uganda, Kelly Rorden and Stephanie May felt a calling to help high school girls deal with the struggles they face as young women in Africa. Many girls in Kenya and Uganda "don’t have money for sanitary napkins," something that we in U.S. take for granted.  Most females living in impoverished communities miss "1/4 of their schooling" due to monthly cycles. Missed school means poor grades, higher dropout rates and some girls even resort to prostitution for money. 

 

Upon coming back to the U.S. Kelly and Stephanie were determined to help these young women stay in school. They started Our Sisters of Africa -- A beautiful Etsy Shop dedicated to raising money to support women in Africa by purchasing reusable sanitary pads. Our Sisters of Africa sells handmade jewelry and 50% OF THEIR PROCEEDS go directly towards supporting young women in Africa. With the purchase of just one ring you can provide a girl with reusable pads for an ENTIRE YEAR!

This past month or so we have had birthdays galore...including a surprise birthday party that Danny and my friends gave me. 5 Joie De Vivre {Simple Joys In Life}

In an earlier post I talked about joie de vivre and the importance of finding the little things throughout your day that make you happy. I'm hoping I can get in the habit of sharing these with you on a weekly basis. Life seems that much sweeter when you're thankful for the small things that are happening all around you.

When you come across things that make you smile -- those "Ahhh life is good moments", write them down. Make a list of the things that you like to savor. It's a fun little project that will remind you about the simple pleasures in life.

Our First Married Valentine's Day + Happy 6 Months Danny

On Feb 14th I came home from work and this Rico Suave was in the backyard...very smooth Dan. I love it. He made me crab stuffed lobster, grilled veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. For dessert we had chocolate ganache cake with blueberries and wine. Oh how I love you Danny. Happy, happy Valentine's Day my love.

Speaking of LOVE, today {Feb 25} is our 6 month anniversary of our first year married! I know, I know...I'm one of those people that counts the months. Actually, Dan was the one who ever so kindly reminded me of the 1/2 way mark. Too cute, my hub is better at keeping track than I am!

 

I Love You Danny.

Time flies by when we're having fun. I can't believe it has already been 6 months. You're the apple of my eye. I love you with all of my heart and I am grateful for everyday we're together. You truly are the best.

What Are You Doing For Valentine's Day?

What are your plans for Valentine's Day? Dan and I usually spend the evening at home. We tried going out for a few years, but it seems that all the resturants have fixed menus and jack up their prices. So this year Dan said he wanted to make dinner for me! Ooh so romantico. We'll have a nice dinner at home, drink some wine and snuggle up on the couch with a good movie. Sounds amazing to me.

We Are Back!

After a loooooong glorious honeymoon, a few weeks of writing thank you notes and getting settled in, I am more than ready to catch up with A Bit Of Bees Knees. Oh how I've missed you!

Danny and I had a wonderful wedding -- the best day of our lives, filled with love, family, friends and good times. I am so excited to share some pictures with you over the next few months.

 I kept a journal with me while we were honeymooning in Europe and jotted down all the fun things we encountered...from the lemon ice in Positano,  to fabulous recipes, must see sights and some swanky European fashion ideas. I'm bursting with fun stories and a bazillion pictures to share with you. 10 countries and 17 cities in 30 days. What a whirlwind!

Danny and I will be on our honeymoon until late September. We are having a blast exploring Europe; Spain, Switzerland, France, Italy, Turkey, Austria, Germany etc.! Our Wedding Is In 2 Days!!!

Hello to all my wonderful friends. So sorry for the lack of posts...life has been busy! Dan and I are getting married in two days! What!? How did that happen? It seems like just yesterday I was writing about getting engaged! I will do my best to give you guys something to read while we're on our awesome honeymoon!

 

We are SO excited to start the first day of the rest of our lives as Mr and Mrs.
